Thinking Of Getting Some GForce Speed Nunchaku – But How Many Chain Links?

I want to get some new speed chucks, I’m not so into the color of my existing ones anymore, and they also have some major blemishes.

However, the company offers the pairs with either 3 or 4 chain links.

I prefer cord, but there is nothing like chain, especially when performing or competing, so I’m cool with chain.

I’ve never had a choice between 3 or 4 links before, and I’m not exactly sure which to choose. My existing speeds have 3 links, but I have been practicing a lot with wood chucks and the Dark Monk Studio Nunchaku, which are far heavier and are fitted with a longer cord for handrolling, etc.

So I’m thinking that using 4 chain links would create a more native feel to me by having the handles further apart, although I’m sure I would get tighter and faster spins with 3 links. My existing speed chucks have 3 links, but after playing with them recently, they feel so constricting in comparison to your default nunchaku. I’ve also tried closing up on images of champion performers in the martial arts scene, and it appears that they use 3 links.

But what do you think? I do want speed chucks for speedier play, and either way, I won’t be able to perform some of our weirder Flowtricks-ey moves on them.

  1. 3 or 4 chain links?

  1. How hard would it be to remove a link if you get 4 but decide 3 sounds better? Is it possible le to add a link to your old ones to try what 4 is like? 3 sounds like the best for what they are but I have never tried either so there is likely a lot I don’t know about it

    1. I don’t know how to work with metal, but I know a guy who added additional links to his back at his metalworking shop, although he’s gone, so I can’t really ask him to do it for me 😛 it is possible,at least though.

  2. My vote is 3. Me personally, I like working extremes. So I’ll have very heavy chucks, speed chucks, light chucks, foam…things where the personality of the style is very strong. I think the more pronounced and different a chuck is, the more it makes certain moves available while others are unavailable. Then if you go to a “less extreme” chuck, you’ll already have the foundation as it will be a blend of the extreme with the standard pair you usually train with.

    Well, that’s my thoughts!

    1. That’s a darn good thought! That was super helpful and it appealed to me because I wanted to get speed chucks to train across the extremes, so the point you bring up makes the decision very clear now.
