I've been snooping around Instagram for a while in the nunchucks tags and I came across some of these toys. I found them pretty darn interesting and wanted to share them with you all!
I get unhealthy compulsions to spin at the worst times, like when I'm driving, in class, on the toilet, or anywhere you would not find nunchucks. I think these toys may be a great solution to keep a person in action!
I found two types:
One is what is officially called the Thumb Chucks (by brandname) and while they look more like double-ended poi than nunchaku, they can perform a wide variety of tricks. The balls seem to keep the motion going more smoothly and directly. The balls can also light up!
The other looks like an actual pair of nunchaku that can fit in your palm! These actually attracted me first, and they look sharp (figuratively). They are made of aluminum or platinum. The etsy vendor also crafts beaded thumb chucks with a strong resemblance to the previously mentioned toy, if you're more interested in that pair.
Make sure you look all over etsy though, there's many cool variants of each!
I ended up personally buying the first item, the Thumb Chucks. The company provides many tutorials and will send you replacement cords (called "belts") of different colors if you prove your skills in the beginner, intermediate, and advanced departments. It's a pretty cool ranking system giving homage to martial arts rank progression. These are also cheaper (they're on sale now! Total cost + shipping was $10.50), while the actual nunchaku-looking pair can be $30-$50. Not to downgrade the nunchaku-looking pair, because I actually wanted those more. For now as a poor college student, the first pair is more cost effective.
Butterfly knives are also very great practice tools too, although I have no experience there yet.
Please list more if you know of any other great skill toys!
